La Boheme is a four act opera by Giacomo Piccini. Luigi Illica and Giuseppe Giacosa turned La Boheme into an opera based on Scénes de la vie Bohéme by Henri Murger. La Boheme premiered at theTeatro Regio on February 1st, 1896 by Arturo Toscanani. Since the premier La Boheme has gone on to be one of the most frequently played operas across the world.

La Boheme is opera consisting of four acts. Act one takes place in the four Bohemians garret. This is where Rudolofo and Mimi become acquainted with one another and first fall in love. Act two takes place in the Quartier Latin. Here Mussesta, Marcello's ex-love, shows up to the cafe the government minister Alcindoro. This has Marcello filled with jealousy. As the act unfolds Marcello and Musseta eventually fall for each other again and Mussesta sticks Alcindoro with the guy’s bill from the cafe. Act three takes place at the toll gate. Here Mimi is looking for Marcello to tell him about Rudolofo leaving her the night before. Rudolfo is worried about Mimi’s health condition but he feels because he is poor he can do little to help her, and he hopes Mimi will go find another lover. In the end of act three Mimi and Rudolofo agree to stay together until spring. Act four is the final act. Mimi leaves Rudolofo in the spring and finds a wealthy man, but her illness begins to catch up with her. Rudolfo buys her pink bonnet and they try to rekindle their love before Mimi's time expires.
